A harmonious blend of design, technology and sustainability

A total of 38 Somfy LS40 WT motors were used in the project. Accompanied by 10 animeo KNX 4AC Motor Controllers, the Somfy animeo KNX Blind Control System works seamlessly to control and communicate between the building functions, optimising both occupant comfort and energy consumption.

Renowned Australian architectural firm Bates Smart has played a significant role in shaping the urban environments of Australia's major cities.

The prominent practice boasts a portfolio of several notable projects and is well-known for its eco-friendly and progressive design philosophy.

In demonstration of its dedication to sustainability and modernity, Bates Smart renovated their iconic Melbourne studio to incorporate a seamless combination of modern technology and innovation, and classical elegance.

The office revamp was an operational turn towards a more flexible and collaborative work environment, as well as an aesthetic improvement.

Floors 6 and 7 of the building were completely decommissioned before significant demolition took place to make room for an integrated steel staircase connecting both levels.

This strategic placement allowed for an efficient flow of movement, a key consideration in contemporary architectural design, which aims to foster both productivity and wellbeing in the workplace.

Somfy Commercial Expert Textured Group collaborated with the Bates Smart design team to understand the project’s requirements and propose the right blind control system for the project.

A key consideration was the challenge that arose due to Bates Smart’s Melbourne office’s status as a heritage listed building; as a result of the façade regulations, the screen blinds needed to be lowered when block outs were in use.

The fit-out project utilised a total of 38 Somfy LS40 WT motors, managed by 10 Somfy animeo KNX 4AC Motor Controllers. The Somfy animeo KNX Blind Control System works seamlessly to efficiently regulate and synchronise the building functions, ensuring optimal occupant comfort and energy efficiency.

As the design required both a block out and screen, Verosol’s Ambience twin roller blinds in combination with 123 Earth Screen fabric were the perfect choice for the studio revamp.

“Prompt deliveries from Somfy and Verosol supported our site installer’s adherence to the construction timeline,” said Textured Group Sales Director, Michael Moro.

“Working with Somfy Projects and Services to customise the system to the client’s needs was a pleasure.”

The Somfy animeo KNX system is particularly advantageous, giving added control and visibility of the system. Motors can be addressed, monitored, and controlled individually, giving occupants the flexibility to customise their favourite blind position.
