Originally built as AMP Centre in 1976 by Peddle Thorp & Walker, the building became the world's first 'upcycled' skyscraper: innovatively repurposed rather than demolished.
The construction method enhanced the existing structure, upcycling 95% of the building’s original internal walls and 60% of its original core structure, earning the project global acclaim as the World’s Best Building 2022.
As a result of this approach, 7.3 million kilograms of embodied carbon was conserved, reducing carbon emissions by 5% and equalling a two-year offset of its operational carbon footprint.
The modern tower and retail space has also achieved a 6-Star Green Star Office Design V3 rating and a 5.5 Star NABERS energy rating, reflecting the strategic goal to create a conscious and clever work environment.
Within QQT, International trading firm IMC Financial Markets leased 5,740 square metres of office space, spanning levels 16 and 40 to 42.
The interior concept of the fit out, designed by Australian creatives Siren Design Group, was to promote a work culture of collaboration and innovation, and utilise smart technology to provide the best working environment for its occupants.
Revolving around a focus on sustainability, Somfy’s solutions contributed to the goal through efficient use of its automated shading system, intelligently responding to external conditions, enhancing thermal comfort, and decreasing reliance on artificial lighting.
The fit-out project utilised a total of 180 Somfy Sonesse 40 WT motors, managed by 50 KNX 4AC Motor Controllers. The Somfy animeo KNX Blind Control System works seamlessly to efficiently regulate and synchronise the building functions, ensuring optimal occupant comfort and energy efficiency.
Somfy Commercial Expert Solis installed the 282 Somfy powered roller blinds, manufactured by Vertilux.
Somfy provided support at every stage of the process, with its Projects team and Somfy Services team installing and commissioning the motors, switches and blind control system.
“Working with Somfy and other stakeholders on this landmark project has been a positive experience,” said Scott Johnston, General Manager for Solis.
“The IMC fit-out project shows off what Somfy has to offer for automated blind control which enhances sustainability for existing commercial spaces,” said Somfy’s Commercial Specification Manager Riju Rajeev.
The Somfy animeo KNX system is particularly advantageous, giving added control and visibility of the system. Motors can be addressed, monitored, and controlled individually, giving occupants the flexibility to customise their favourite blind position.
