Located at 180 George Street, the premium-grade tower is the centrepiece of the broader Sydney Place precinct on the waterfront of Circular Quay.
Designed by Foster + Partners with Architectus as the local architect, the tower was developed and constructed by Lendlease as part of a joint venture with Ping An Real Estate and Mitsubishi Estate Asia.
The vision was to create a world-class, sustainable workplace that would redefine Sydney’s skyline while contributing positively to the precinct around it.
The design prioritised natural daylight, harbour views, connectivity, and public space, with a deliberate focus on creating a highly connected precinct rather than an isolated tower.
Flexible, future-ready office spaces and extensive end-of trip facilities completed the offering for anchor tenant Salesforce, alongside other major commercial organisations including JLL.
Sustainability was a key consideration throughout the development, helping the project achieve a 6-Star Green Star rating, Platinum WELL Core & Shell certification, and a 5.5 Star NABERS Energy rating.
Its high-performance façade and extensive glazing maximise natural daylight and Sydney Harbour views, while intelligent solar shading plays a critical role in managing heat gain and glare to improve comfort and energy performance.
Somfy automated blinds were integrated with the Building Management System (BMS) using Shadow Management and Sun Tracking to deliver intelligent, responsive solar control.
The blinds automatically adjust throughout the day based on the sun’s position and changing solar conditions across each façade, reducing glare and solar heat gain while preserving natural daylight and the tower’s celebrated harbour views.
The result is improved occupant comfort, reduced cooling demand, and measurable support for the building’s energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
Somfy Commercial Expert Turner Arc Shading Systems installed a total of 4,360 Verosol 202 Silverscreen roller blinds across the tower, driven by 2,180 Somfy Sonesse WT motors.
The intelligent solar shading system is controlled by Somfy KNX 4AC Motor Controllers with local KNX override switches, ensuring precise, zone-based automated shading across every level of the building.
“Salesforce Tower Sydney provided an opportunity to deliver an intelligent automated shading solution for one of Australia’s most iconic commercial buildings,” said Jason Turner, Director of Turner Arc Shading Systems.
“Working closely with Lendlease, project consultants and our partners Somfy and Verosol, we were able to deliver a KNX-controlled automated shading system integrated with the Building Management System.
“Using Shadow Management and Sun Tracking features, the system automatically adjusts the blinds based on the sun’s position and changing solar conditions, helping to manage glare and solar heat gain while maintaining natural daylight and harbour views.
“The solution supports improved occupant comfort, energy efficiency and the building’s overall sustainability performance.”
“We are proud to have partnered with Somfy and Turner Arc on this project,” added Brenton Bailey, Specification and Commercial Manager at Verosol.
“Working closely with Jason Turner from Turner Arc, we supported the project through its various stages, supplying automated blinds for the base building and several fit-out packages.”
