8 Simple Summer Party Ideas

When summer rolls around, it's natural to want to spend time outdoors with family and friends.

Host the party at your house and make it one to remember with some creative and innovative ideas. Here are eight fun ideas to make your summer get-together a standout occasion.

Light it Up

There's something about mood lighting that lifts people's spirits, putting them in the mood to connect with old friends and meet new people. Enliven your outdoor area by hanging some fairy lights and creating an ambient wonderland. Simply switch the lights on when your guests arrive and invite everyone to gather in the backyard.

Add RTS receivers to your outdoor lighting for the ability to control your lights via a remote or even set them on schedules using our home automation solution, Connexoon Window RTS

Embrace Water Activities

If there are going to be kids at your party, set up some water balloon pinatas and give them a fun way to keep cool. It's important to note that there is nothing stopping adults from joining in too.

Don't forget to prepare your pool in time for summer! Check out some of our tips here

Frozen Fruit Cubes

Freeze chunks of fruit and provide them as ice cubes for your guests instead of frozen water. They'll cool your drinks down and as they melt they will release a burst of flavour. It's best to use strongly flavoured juicy fruits like orange, lime, passionfruit, or apple.

Create a Party that Packs a Punch

It's the little touches that guests really notice. A hollowed-out watermelon as a punch bowl is a fun and simple way to elevate the party and increase the fun!

Bring the Inside Out

Take some extra steps to make your yard lovely and welcoming for your party. You might have some chairs or ornaments in your home that you can bring outside for the occasion.

Using motorised external blinds, you can transform your outdoor space into an outdoor room with the touch of a button! This will help seamlessly blend the indoors and outdoors of your home. Click here to watch some examples.

You Need a Centrepiece

Add floral arrangements to tables or highlight the garden or water sculpture with solar lights and let your guests discover them as the night progresses.

In the food and drink area, you can add a gigantic fruit bowl with vines laid out across the table under it. For the dessert table, a 3ft tall chocolate fondue fountain makes for a stunning feature.

Gorgeous Citronella Candles

While traditional mosquito coils will keep the mozzies away, citronella candles will add an extra element to your party.

To create beautifully scented citronella candles, simply pour water and citronella oil into some old jars. Add fruit and herbs to scent the candle, including aromas like lime, rosemary, jasmine or sage. Finish by placing the floating candle on the top of the jar and place the finished products around the party to add protection and atmosphere.

Alternatively, you can keep the mozzies out by enclosing your outdoor area. Motorised external blinds can drop down and act as a privacy screen, while also preventing anything from coming in!

Make Sun Safety Easy

In Australia, we're lucky to have some incredible weather but that often comes with incredibly high UV ratings. To combat sunburn, heat stroke and dehydration, make sure your party is sun-safe. Set up a sunscreen station around your yard and make sure there is plenty of access to cool water.

Providing some well-shaded areas is also important. Consider setting up beach umbrellas or place tables and chairs under trees. Alternatively, you could take advantage of automated screens and awnings to provide respite for your guests.
